EPD Revises Mitigation Guidance

The Georgia EPD has recently updated its Stream Buffer Guidance and the changes are in effect as of January 2011.

One of the most significant changes to the document is the replacement of onsite/offsite mitigation requirements with new language requiring applicants to purchase credits from USACE approved mitigation banks.

Included as an appendix to the guidance is a Standard Operating Procedure for calculating the number of stream credits needed to offset buffer variance impacts.

GERA is pleased to see Georgia EPD utilize mitigation bank credits as a part of its buffer variance program and several of our members were invited to participate in the stakeholder committee formed to review and comment on the proposed changes.

A copy of the revised guidance document has been attached to this post.
